Cooling system flush VS Drain and Fill

Cooling system flush October 6, 2010

A cooling system flush consists of: Draining the cooling system, radiator, engine block, and all heater - related components.  De-scale as necessary and inspect tubes in radiator for cleanliness.  Reverse flush cooling system with fresh water and air pressure.  Flush cooling system until fresh water is coming from cooling system, completely drain system.  Replace thermostat, gaskets, and refill cooling system with a 50/50 percent antifreeze mix.  Run vehicle until thermostat is open and allowing coolant to flow thru the system.  Check operation of cooling fans, and seal cooling system.

A drain and fill consists of:  Draining the cooling system, radiator, engine block, and all heater-related components.  De-scale as necessary and inspect tubes in radiator for cleanliness.  Rinse cooling system with fresh water.  Refill cooling system with a 50/50 percent antifreeze mix.  Run vehicle until thermostat is open and allowing coolant to  flow thru the system.  Check operation of cooling fans, and seal cooling system.

We recommend a "Drain and Fill" if you take good care of your vehicle and maintain the cooling system.  A drain and fill is replacing antifreeze before it begins to brake down and loose its corrosion inhibiters.  A cooling system flush is recommended if you have not maintained your cooling system in the last couple years, have dirty antifreeze, or your vehicle is begining to run warmer then normal.

Feel free to bring in your vehicle.  We will be happy to inspect the condition of your cooling system and let you know which service we would recommend and why.  Please feel free to give us a call:  Triangle Auto Service, 4060 N.
