How often should I change my cars radiator hose's?
The radiator hose connects the radiator to the engine. Coolant flows thru these hoses from the engine to the radiator which cools the coolant and returns back to the engine. The radiator is important because it keeps the engine from overheating. Over time, these hoses will need to be replaced to keep the engine running cool.
The manufacturers recommend you replace the coolant hoses every 4 years or 60,000 miles. Coolant hoses typically start to break down from the inside out. Sometimes the outside of the hose looks OK but inside they develop cracks which can cause overheating issues. If a hose splits, or breaks your car will spray hot antifreeze from the leak which usually leads to a rapidly overheating engine.
It is recommended that you replace your hoses every four years or 60,000 miles. If you do a lot of stop and go driving this may require tighter replacement intervals. We at Triangle Auto always do a free inspection of coolant hoses while performing oil changes or any other coolant related concerns. If you decide to replace your hoses yourself, be sure to purchase the exact size and diameter of your hoses. Coolant hoses are not interchangeable, and are specific to your car's make and model. If you would like us to check the condition of your vehicles cooling system, feel free to stop by. We are cooling system specialists and would give you an honest evaluation of your vehicles needs. Many time cooling systems are in good shape or may only need a rinse flush of the cooling system. Ask for Bryan or Paul. Triangle Auto Service 4060 N.
