When should I change my antifreeze in my car?
If you have an older vehicle pre 2009, it is a good idea to flush out your cooling system every two years. The coolant may still look good but the inhibiters in the antifreeze start to break down and become acidic. Once the antifreeze breaks down the freezing point changes and may lead to a cracked radiator or freeze plug leak. This is a repair that can be avoided by regular service. If the car has an extended life coolant, service intervals can be extended to every four years. We do recommend checking the antifreeze every two years, no matter what type of coolant you have. When extended coolant breaks down it can lead to costly repairs if not taken care of. Extended life coolant has been know to damage intake manifold gaskets, water pumps, and clogging radiators, when not serviced in a timely matter.
